Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have a cesarean?Doulas can still be helpful during c-sections too! I will meet you at check-in and help you feel at ease during pre-op. Once we’re in the operating room, I will help to keep the atmosphere calm and fun. I can help to ensure golden hour still happens, including skin-to-skin.
What if I labor for more than 15 hours? Many people do! I’m here to support you through all of it! In the beginning, we will start with texting and phone calls to check in. Once you’re in active labor and feeling like you’re ready for some in-person support, I’ll be there! We’ll work together to decide the best time for in-person support. Most people do not go over 15 hours.
Have you supported any births in the hospital I'm birthing at?Maybe! However, I think it’s important to remember that every birth experience is unique and so is my support that I’ll offer. The location doesn’t make a difference in how I’ll provide that support.
What if I plan on exclusively nursing?I get this one a lot when it comes to postpartum care. My answer… we will make a plan that works for you! This may look like me bringing baby to you when they are ready to eat, or calling you so that you can come downstairs. Once baby is fed, I’ll do the rest!
If you change your mind, or something isn’t working, that’s ok! I’m flexible. We are a team and we will figure it out!
What type of sleep space do you need for overnight services?I’m not picky! I have slept on couches, air mattresses, and guest beds. The most important thing is proximity to baby or a monitor so that I can help to ensure you get the rest you need!
What's one piece of advice you would give all new parents? “Different people need different things, and that’s ok!”
This is something that I think is so important in many contexts, but especially in birth and parenting. What works for one person may not work for you. You need to find what makes you feel good and embrace it!
